Today is the second day of #thisiscrazylove2016initiated by Tyler Merritt and it is appropriate to tell you about my friend Antony. Just over a year ago I was in Thailand with Antony shooting a documentary. My first attempt at doing so. It is one of those beautiful times in life when the phrase, "I couldn't have done it without you" is the perfect sentiment.
In this experience the thing I was the least impressed by was Antony's abilities as a cinematographer. Skills, I might add, that are top notch.
Making the decision to use the Cannon 5D Mark iii was made to ensure a crew of one to capture any and all important details.
Instead it was his gentleness, his work ethic, his friendship and attentiveness to me through a moment in time when I teetered between a dream come true and the loss of a dear teacher in my life.
Antony allowed my melancholic behavior when it was important for processing but would energize me with humor when he sensed it was time to draw me out.
The evening of the lanterns came to be a special night months after it was captured. The evening of shooting was simply a fascinating time to see something cultural. Antony's insistence on getting as much footage as possible truly helped in the edit of this scene to find the right mix to convey ideas properly.
He helped me reach a lifelong dream and walked with me through the rough times at the same time.
This young Thai woman was convinced she was getting her photo taken with Louis CK despite our numerous attempts to set her right.
For these two reasons, among so many others, Antony Boshier is someone worth sharing #thisiscrazylove2016.
