Other #thisiscrazylove2016

If you know me at all you know I bring up conversations of interfaith dialogue quite a bit.

So, it should come as no surprise to you, dear reader, that I went to a gathering tonight of that persuasion.

This is what a family of love looks like. I've only met two of the five of them but I gotta believe the rest just as insightful and caring.

This is what a family of love looks like. I've only met two of the five of them but I gotta believe the rest just as insightful and caring.

My friend Daoud, along with some of his friends puts on a gathering in a person's home to invite people from different faiths and cultures to gather to learn what it means to live in harmony.

Now, before you think I'm going to get all hippy-dippy sing songy, know that this is a profound experience... If one is willing to listen.

You can find out more about these and other initiatives here.

It was at this event that Daoud first blew my mind with his wisdom and grace. It was a night I will never forget.

It was at this event that Daoud first blew my mind with his wisdom and grace. It was a night I will never forget.

Tonight I will speak more specifically about Daoud.

Daoud is one of the people in my life who, when he is speaking, I listen.

I've never been in his presence for more than thirty minutes before something comes from his mind or heart and out his mouth that shakes my world, rocks my certainty and shines a light on the subtlety of my ignorance to how other people perceive the same situation.

All that said, I'm sure if he were sitting beside me right now he'd ask a question about what I ACTUALLY mean with the word, "other."

I'm not going to go into the simple teachings with profound implications I've learned from this man. Not because I don't want to share his wisdom with you but because of it is truly important to you, you'll seek him out. I've given you his website and tagged him in the Facebook post for this blog. What more do you want.

Today I give my #thisiscrazylove2016 to Daoud Abudiab. He is my friend. But more than that, he is my family.
